Gently cut the sound holes with a sharp knife (be careful). Use a file or sander and remove the excess around the body.  Sand the whole body . . . Take your time.  Do a good job!

Finishing the Body

Sand and/or file the “butt end” of the Peghead until it fits perfectly into the Peghead brace.  Then remove the Peghead, glue generously in the Peghead brace cavity.  Gently insert the Peghead – set the dulcimer in a stable upright position and let the glue set over night.

1.- After the glue has dried.  Re-sand.

2.- Make sure your dulcimer is LOOKING GOOD!  Sand, sand and then sand some more.  When you think you have sanded enough, start over again!

3.– You can use your favorite finish product and style.  Simply follow the instructions.

4.– Allow to dry completely before moving on to the next step.

5.– After the first coat I use 0000 steel wool and “rub down” the dulcimer, use a tack cloth to make sure it is clean and apply 2nd coat.  Repeat this step until you are satisfied.
